He's the only Oni that actually has an arc. Tomizo Todayama/Kamen Rider Todoroki- Possibly my favourite Oni in this season, and not because of his suit. After having some pretty cool secondary rides, he feels like a step back. That said, I can't really think of anything about his character that stood out to me. He was good-looking, friendly, blew a mean piece of brass, and his suit had shades of blue to it. Iori Izumi/Kamen Rider Ibuki- Ibuki was an alright lad. He wasn't a character that developed, but more one that helped develop overs, in this case, two in particular. He was an old guy rider, which means he didn't need to go through an arc to learn something about life, he already knew it. He was friendly, strong and well-trained. Hitoshi Hidaka/Kamen Rider Hibiki- Hibiki is Goku. The show has this organization that has a fair few, but we mainly focus on three. In this season the Riders aren't referred to as such, much like in Gaim, but instead are called Oni. One thing I question, why get rid of the outro? It also helped that the characters that we were introduced to up to that point were all likable. We had something new, and then we transitioned to something familiar. Hibiki gets more focus during the second half of the season when it becomes more like a normal rider season. They make the title character a side character in favour of telling the story of Asumu, a normal lad with normal problems like exams, brass bands, shoplifting, and staring at chests. Oni finds a monster, it has a pair, they kill it, then a giant CGI monster shows up, they perform a rock concert, it dies.īut what they do is something different. The pacing is similar to the monster of the week structure. My first thoughts watching the beginning were, "Is this a musical?" Like music plays a big part in this series, but I didn't expect that. It goes without saying, but spoilers are ahead for Hibiki, and if you talk about events in another season in the comments, be sure to put spoiler tags. But, much like with Blade, I will still treat it fairly and as a whole. I also knew beforehand that this season had a change in staff, and thus the latter half feels different from the first. I already knew that this season wouldn't be like the others before and after it, so I was both curious and dreading what I was about to step into, thinking this would be another Saber situation.
